Privacy Agreement 

UMB takes data security and the privacy of your personal information very seriously.  Maryland law mandates that State agencies refrain from creating personal records unless the need for the information is clearly established and reasonable efforts are used to ensure records are accurate.  State officials who request personal data from citizens must:

  • State the purpose for which the information is being collected
  • State any consequences for refusing to provide the personal information
  • Comply with the citizen's right to inspect and correct personal records
  • State whether the information is generally available for public inspection
  • State whether the information is made available to other entities

On this site, UMB collects information used for the purpose of completing the employment application process. If you choose not to provide the personal information requested, a guarantee cannot be made that you will receive full consideration for employment opportunities.  UMB does collect statistical information that is not associated with any specific individual. The statistical information helps UMB comply with and understand how the website is being used so we can continually improve our services. No attempts are made to profile individuals who browse the website. "Cookies" may be used to complete some transactions. Once you finish the application, the cookie is removed. We do not use cookies to track visitors.


UMB recognizes and respects the need for privacy of sensitive information.  Maintaining the security of sensitive information is one of the University’s most important responsibilities.  UMB’s IT administrators or their authorized representatives are held accountable for adhering to strict standards to prevent the misuse of sensitive information.  Sensitive information is safeguarded as follows:

  1. Employee access to sensitive information is restricted to individuals on a “need to know” basis for the sole purpose of conducting the business of the University.
  2. UMB emphasizes the importance of confidentiality and privacy through a combination of training, operating procedures, and systematically enforced information technology security.
  3. UMB strictly adheres to FERPA, HIPAA, GLB, Maryland Law, and other relevant federal and state laws to protect the security of sensitive information.   
  4. UMB continually tests and updates our information technology resources to improve the protection of sensitive information residing on University servers.
  5. At times, UMB is legally required to disclose sensitive information, e.g., in response to a valid subpoena or to comply with a legally permitted inquiry by a governmental agency or regulatory body.  UMB may exchange some sensitive information with other entities in order to carry out normal University business transactions.  Legal requirements concerning use and disclosure of sensitive information will be applied to information maintained with IT Resources to the same extent that the requirements are applied to records in other forms

Under the provisions of State law, such as the Maryland Public Information  Act, your personal information is not available for inspection by the general public unless you specifically authorize the release.   You have the right to inspect your personal records and to make corrections as necessary.
